GENOCIDE IN WEST PAPUA
The people of West Papua have been suffering under Indonesian occupation since 1963. Over 500,000 civilians have been killed, and thousands more have been raped, tortured and imprisoned. Foreign media and human rights groups are banned from operating in West Papua, so people rarely hear about the situation there. The Free West Papua Campaign is bringing the story of West Papua to the world and campaigning for freedom and justice in West Papua, to end the violence of the last 50 years.

GENERATIONAL SLAVERY IN MAURITANIA
Slavery has been called "deeply rooted" in the structure of the northwestern African country of Mauritania, and "closely tied" to the ethnic composition of the country. In 1981, Mauritania became the last country in the world to abolish slavery, when a presidential decree abolished the practice. However, no criminal laws were passed to enforce the ban. In 2007, "under international pressure", the government passed a law allowing slaveholders to be prosecuted. Despite this, the number of slaves in the country has been estimated to be up to 600,000 (or 17% of the population).
THE JARAWA: HUMAN ZOO & FACING EXTINCTION
The Jarawa are the first indigenous people of Asia who came from Africa 70,000 years ago to live on the Andaman Islands, now territories of India. They had lived in complete isolation for 50,000 years. Today the Jarawa people are in great danger as outsiders have introduced alcohol and drugs into the reserve and are sexually abusing girls from the tribe, which numbers about 400 and whose members only started to come out of the territory 16 years ago. In 2012 India was scandalised after the Observer exposed state-ran human safaris by publishing video footage of girls from the tribe being coerced into dancing semi-naked in return for food. The safaris were condemned around the world and the Indian government promised to take action. As of now no real protective actions have been taken and the Indian government attempts to assimilate the tribe by force.
LIBYA: MODERN DAY SLAVE TRADE
Libya is the main transit hub for refugees and migrants attempting to reach southern Europe by sea. They are coming from countries like Nigeria, Eritrea, Guinea, Ivory Coast,, Gambia, Senegal, Sudan and Somalia. The world's most vulnerable, fleeing war and poverty back home, are being abused and auctioned off as slaves - a shocking danger facing migrants and refugees in Libya. It has been reported that hundreds of people are being auctioned in modern day slave markets in Libya for as little as $400.
